Console Tables in Pakistan: Sizes, Placement and What to Pay

A console table does more work than almost any other piece in a Pakistani home. It greets people in the entrance, carries a lamp and a sculpture in the drawing room, and defines the wall behind a sofa in open-plan apartments.

Because it sits at eye level, its proportions and its finish are unforgiving. This guide covers the numbers that matter before you buy.

Getting the size right

Console height in most homes should land between 80 cm and 90 cm — roughly the height of a dining table, so it reads as architecture rather than furniture. Depth of 40 cm to 42 cm keeps a hallway walkable while still holding a lamp, a tray and a decorative object.

Width follows the wall. For a wall of 8 to 10 feet, a console of 140 cm looks correct; for a longer 12 to 14 foot wall, go to 180 cm. Our Monarch and Empire consoles sit at exactly these two widths for that reason.

Stone tops and metal bases

The two things to judge are the top and the joins. A high-gloss marble-finish stone top should be even in gloss across the whole surface with no ripple when you look along it at an angle. On the base, look at where tubes or plates meet — polished-gold and brass finishes hide weak welds badly, so clean, continuous joints are the honest sign of a good piece.

Styling in three objects

The reliable formula is height, mass and light: a table lamp at one end, a sculpture or mirror at the other, and something low and horizontal — a tray or stacked books — in the middle. Keep the surface at roughly one-third empty.
